starting help

Default starting help

whats going on everyone im new here and neew to mustangs ive been building hondas for 9 yrs but i got a questions i just replaced the ignition switch and ignition cyclinder in my 88 mustang lx 5.0 and it still wont start i jumped the ignition coil and it turns over... now my question is is there a relay or fuse under the hood because the last time i started it, it looked like a cloud of smoke under the hood........ can someone please help me

You might check the fusible links coming off of the battery side of the starter solenoid.
Id the car an automatic or 5-speed. It could be the clutch pedal switch if it's a 5-speed or the neutral safety switch if it is an automatic.

well actually it is a automatic but it was converted to automatic it WAS a 5speed the gentleman i bought it from had no left arm.......

Does it still have a clutch pedal or was the assembly changed to the auto set-up?

You said you jumped the ignition coil and it turned over? Did you mean the starter solenoid? I would hope you know the difference between the 2 seeing as you have been building Honda's for those 9 years Just teasing, lol.

Did you do the basic tests with a test light to make sure you are getting power to the solenoid via the ignition switch wire? Did you try to start the vehicle in neutral?
