The 4R70W is a great transmission. The drawback is the computer control. If I go auto, I will go C4 as well with a good converter and manual valvebody. It won't be too bad with 3.55 gears. About 2800 @ 60mph I think with 26" tall tires is where I'm at in 4th gear in my T-5 now.
they have a full manual valve body out for the 4R70W now that takes the need for a computer away. But it is not cheap at all the one I was looking at was in the $700 range. but there will more to come that is for sure so the price will come down some.
That would be sweet!! What about the lock-up converter function?
From what info I have seen and looked at so far lock is applied with a switch and or a timer it also comes with a trans. brake at that price... so the lock up still works
