Default Auto Trans Help

Im building a 347 Stroker in a 93 Notchback and i was wondering what trans would be better
- C4
- C6
- AOD
- 4r70W
- OTher

Motor will be an all probe industries stroker kit with, most likely, Twisted wedge 170's. Im hoping to be at the 500 Hp mark with a 100-150 shot Nitrous. Rear end will be 3.55's or 3.73's. Manual trans is not an option because im not dealing with it. Trans will have either a transpak or shift improver kit installed but other than that itll be stock.

C4 since you don't want to upgrade the trans with anything other than a shift kit. Be sure you get a stall converter as well.
AOD's need to be built to handle a good amount of power so they don't burn up or break.
C6's are just too heavy and too parasitic for a small block.
4r70w........why?

Are you going to use this as a DD or just race?

ditto , c4 is the only option other than a powerglide, and the best econimic choice as well. only use a AOD if your not ever going to drive it anywhere.

Well i heard 4r70w's can handle 500+ft.lbs in stock form.

This is going be a "weekend" car and might make a trip to school every now and then.

We had one guy around here try the built aod. The guy he had it done by has been doing transmissions for years and also built racing spec c-4s and power glides for everyone around here. He even offers a warranty for racing. He had never built an aod other than stock spec. Long story short, the trans went back 6 times to the builder. The builder felt sorry for him and wanted to help him out so he bought it with all the shizz the guy put on it.

so if you have one done, make sure they have done it before or you will be very unhappy.

my advice is get a 5-speed

auto is for making money at the track and you won't break a 5-speed if it never hooks. a 347 with a 100 shot isn't going to hook. a 3550 would be fine

I am in for the 4r70w if built right they will take some HP as will the AOD but the 4r70w has some better parts in it but a full manual valve body is crazy money for that thing I have been looking at them my self.

There was a guy on here once claiming the 70w in the 4r70w stood for 700 ft lbs of torque capacity, I think he was a clueless bafoon for making such a claim/outlandish statement..lol
