Default Ball joint question?

on a 87 fox can the ball joints be replaced? the reason i ask is the boots are torn/rotted on my ball joints and in the manual it says that i have to replace the whole lower control arm but i see the ball joints forsale but mostly the whole assembly? thanks guys mike

I BOUGHT my joints at napa, used a ball joint press to R & R them

This is only good advice when the ball joint is young and it excellent condition. Usually they are damaged because they are 100 years old and if it's been open for a long time. Dirt and water will probably have went inside.

You can just replace the ball joint. The only reason Ford wants you to replace the whole arm is this garantees you have it pressed in properly and you compliment the repair with lower control arm bushings.

I prefer just the ball joint 90% of the time but price it out before you decide.

bought new ball joints today and rented the press, i am putting them in tommorow. thanks for the help
