Default Ride Height Question

My 87 GT has the original shocks/dampers and springs. It is really starting to ride rough and a bit spongy, especially in the front. Its also sitting too low in front, especially drivers side, maybe .5 to 3/4" lower than stock im guessing. My question is if I replace the shocks in the front and rear, will it help fix/even out my ride height at all? I know most people say shocks dont affect ride height and I would tend to agree. However I noticed when I park the car, if I lift up on the front fender a bit, the car will move up a little and stay there. So is it possible that new shocks are all I need to get it to stay at that height? Or do you think the springs are gone too?

Id replaced both since you have to do this same work to change both. If you can afford it do both and save your self some time and a headache.

The sponginess is due to the struts being bad.

springs determine height and shocks resist motion.
id take boss's advice and change them both(springs/dampers) out.

i just changed mine out in late june. from stock springs/KYB"whites"--> to--> H&R sport springs/ Tokico"blues". And it makes a world of difference in driving/handling/ride.

Correct me if Im wrong but it is more work to do both because you leave the springs in place in the front when you change struts? I dont think you have to take the springs out.

In the rear, once the shocks are unbolted, the springs will literally fall out... so no extra work there.

In the front, once the car is jacked up and the strut is unbolted, its just a case of lowering the control arm down further, and the spring pops out.

so, its really NOT much extra work if you do them at the same time
