Thermostat?

Default Thermostat?

what thermostat should i be running? i was lookin on summit and was thinking 180 but probably to cool. what do you guys recomend and run? thanks mike

When I got my LX it had a 160, but after reading the forums they said it makes it run to cold to which the car would run rich to try and warm up. So I threw a 180 in and have had better results. I agree with previous reply's, go with the 180.

I believe you have twin electric fans according to your 200 amp alternator thread. Since you can adjust the temperature via the electric fans and when the fans turn on, a 180 degree will work just fine. I have a 180 thermo and when i tested it in boiling water with a meat thermometer it didnt fully open until 188 degrees. Therefore i set my electric fans to turn on at 198 degrees to keep at least a 10 degree gap between fan turn on and complete thermostat opening so i am not cycling the brass thermo open and closed all the time, you want a ten degree gap in between. If you set your electric fan turn on at less than 198 degrees then go with a 160 degree thermo to keep a ten degree gap. A 160 thermo fully opens at 168 degrees.
