Default Tail Lights

I recently got pulled over for speeding and instead of giving me a ticket he only gave me a fix it ticket for not having a front license plate..i know thats not the description but hear me out... so i go to the dmv to get new plates...well my car was in an accident in Dec and now it has a salvage title so to get the new plates i first have to get a brake and light inspection..SO i get new front rotors and brake pads so it will pass that part but am kinda confused about my tail lights...where i was hit it busted my drivers side tail light ( along with a dented bumper, mangled quarter panel and dented door) all the lights still work but the cover is busted. im looking into getting some tail lights through american muscle for 149 for a pair but they are 96's ....so heres my question..95's have horizontal tail lights correct? and when they went to 96's they changed to vertical? so if my car already has verticals do i have to have to still get a 96 harness or do u think the previous owner already did that? Any input is appreciated

94-95 horizontal. 96 up vertical. If has vertical I would guess what is needed is already done.
