Default Timing chain installation

Just put a cam in my motor and im about to start assembly (first time building a motor), i was told to have the #1 cylinder at TDC and the cam at a place so both valves for the #1 cylinder are close, sound right? Now my timing chain has 3 notches on the crank gear, how do i know which one to use? Also what are the torque specs for the cam bolt? And should i use loctite on it? Thanks in advance guys.

I've never installed a cam before so this is purely a question to learn something, but aren't the cams suppose to have a recommended timing from the manufacturer?

I was under the impression you needed to get a timing wheel and set the timing according to their specs. I've heard of setting the timing dot to dot for the stock cam, but if someone is installing an aftermarket cam why wouldn't they want to go with the manufacturers timing to get the maximum performance?

Maybe I read it wrong. This is an aftermarket cam, right?

According to the Chilton manual the sprocket bolt is 52-70 ft. lbs. Thrust plate bolts 9-12 ft. lbs.

It don't matter what the cam is you should install it so the cam sprocket is at 6 0'clock and the crank sprocket is at 12 0'clock.
I would use some medium strength lock-tite on the cam gear and torque it to about 55 ft/lb.....
