Default 331 BUILD QUESTIONS

ok so i have a couple questions on a 331 build. here is what i have, stock block studed mains with girdle, scat 331 stroker kit with forged crank and forged H beam rods, probe srs pistons for tfs twisted wedge heads. now here is my question cause i think i just f***ed myself, i got the tfs top end kit with the 170cc heads and the street intake. did i go to small and choke the hell outta the motor with those H/C/I? i ordered this beacause i live in az and need the car to still pass emission as it is pretty much my dd. and so for another question, if this set up is to small, should i go with the tfs 190cc FAC stage 2 cam and track heat intake? any suggestions on the H/C/I is welcome although i would at least like to stay with tfs heads as my pistons are already for them and are in the block already. and if i need to go bigger what to get that will still pass emissions (sniffer and visual checks). so rry for the length of post. and thanks. oh yeah and eventually i plan for a super charger probly no more than 8-10psi.

It`ll be fine!
I built a 347 with the trackheat intake, stage 2 cam and 170 heads and it was pretty peppy and runs great for what it is! Ran off from a H/C/I LT1 camaro like it was sitting still! The camaro dyno`d 355 to the wheels!
but he wanted a little more so we went with a cam swap and a v-1 blower!

The kit will work nicely with a 331!

if your worried about emissions the tfs 190cc heads dont have the appropriate holes for the crossover tube you run at the back of the heads for the smog pump.

It'll be fine on a 331. A little small for something trying to be a beastly strip car, but in a daily driver or something that'll be road raced/autox'd it's perfectly fine.

gonna have to agree here, itll make a terrific street car, but itll be lack-luster at the track.

thanks for the feed back guys. as much as i want to build just a stupid nasty motor alas it still has to be my street car. but i do have a 93 LX hatch shell sittin in the back yard so who knows i might just build a track car. anyway so if i stayed with the 170cc heads and went to like the stage 2 cam and trck heat intake should it be able to pass emissions? also any ball park hp estimates for these 2 set ups? i know everybody asks this question just wondering if im close at about 300-350 whp. thanks again.

you screwed yourself in two ways in my opinion.....forged crank and forged h-beams in a stock block = money down the tube when the block goes first, cast steel is all you need, the block will let go long before the cast stuff does.........I wouldn't supercharger a stroker on a stock block, save the money and put all those good parts in a block deserving of them and as for the 170 heads, you can send them out later to Fox-lake and have them go through the 205 cnc port with your parts set up you have chosen...low 300's 320-330 max

Get a custom hyd roller cam, Ed over at Flowtech grinds bitchen cams for SBF's. And he can get you something that'll pass emissions and make really good power in that engine.

Well being the tfs heads dont have egr port in then you will have to do some homework and good thinking on emissions!

But a tfs topend and 331 cuin about 315rwhp. but could be bumped up with a tune!

Arizona emissions laws are easy to skirt anyway.
Build what you want and register it to an address outside any testing areas.
Places like Flagstaff, Kingman, even Casa Grande.......
I know people who have been doing this for at least 10-12 years....
