Cool 5.0 Fuel Pump Question & Advise Please

First off...what a great forum for Mustang owners, it has helped me many times.

I am new to this Mustang world, and love it. I have a 1992 5.0 we run in ChumpCar and 24 Hours of Lemons racing. ($500 crap can cars)

Question - Fuel pump went bad and we are eventually going to put in a fuel cell. I installed an external HV fuel pump but have done nothing with the regulator. It seems like these system are sensitive and want to make sure nothing has to be done with the regulator. Seems like after this has been done the car is running a little rich. I do have new O2 sensors. Will additional pressure help out? I'm not looking to change it unless I have too..

This is a stock 302. A/C, smog delete, open exhaust, cold air intake, timing is set at 14 degrees. We are still running all the stock ECU but I do see that someone previously has installed a super chip.

Thanks in advance..

Exactly what type and brand of fuel pump are you running? I assume the pump output is enough to over come your FPR, is it a adjustable unit? If not, get one so you can adjust your pressure down to stock levels, then tune and test drive, you may need to make futhur adjustments. The thing is, the ECU shouldve compensated for the higher out put of the FP, but try what I recommended and let us know what happened.
Oh yea, Im jealous big time of your Lemons racing thing, Im way over in Hawaii and seen it on TV, and if I was there, I would love to get into that!! It would be nice to know how you make out in the races. It would be awesome to see you dominate in your FOX!!

the first thing I would suggest is that you put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and verify if your fuel pressure is or is not in spec. No need to continue chasing a ghost if it doesn't exist.

Thanks guys...I will check the fuel pressure. It should be what, 30 something on the rail with the vacuum line removed? Here is a link to a teammates site that shows the car...it's come farther since these photos..

Thanks
