Default Permanent Plans Changed

Well I posted the other day I was purchasing an 85 in pretty good condition for a steal. Well my wife pulled the cash out of the bank and was getting ready to head off to get my car. Well being in Afghanistan, when you sleep, Im awake. Well something told me "Tim sweep Craigslist one more time but check San Diego"
Well I guess looking at what it would cost to do an 8.8 swap and many other things to bring it current and be able to hold HP/TQ, I decided to look for an 86+. Well sure enough, I came across it. So sitting in my garage right now is a 1991 5.0 LX. Its white with MSD wires and a flowmaster catback. Thats it, other than that its completely stock. Interior is nicer, body is 90%, never been wrecked but had a blowout and the tire slapped the inside of the fender and dented a piece. But for 84.99 a new fender from LMR is too easy. Its gonna get a paintjob once I am completed anyway.
Its been 10+ years since I have owned a Mustang so I am very much out of the loop on whats been going on. I can tell you that I want to make some serious power but I want a well handling car.
I have a 08 Evo X that has Custom remote resevoir coilovers from Eibach so I am spoiled by a well handling car. Im not much of a dragster so handling is where I am at...
Any advice or tips and tricks to things that work is greatly appreciated.

I would just keep the evo for handling and build the mustang for straight line.

I used to own an 08 evo x as well, and the mustang is NOWHERE near the same handling platform/potential. You would spend 10k+ to get the mustang to handle as well as the evo x does stock, and even then the awd on the evo still trumps in the twisties.

But the fox is an outstanding drag platform. If the drivetrain in it is as good to go as it sounds, you wouldn't have to put that much into it to make your evo look slow in a straight line.

p.s. This really is the last change of plans right? 3rd times gotta be the charm... I'm just waiting for the thread 2 days from now, "changed my mind and sold the 91"

Yeah this is the last change of cars. Its time for me to build a V8 and make a nice cruiser out of it. Im not looking for it to handle like the Evo but I know I dont want to take a corner in the LX and plow a pole from understeer. Im sure once I get home and drive a V8 again it will motivate the mod juices and Ill make a plan. Right now I am putting together a preventative maintenance list and ordering everything I need to get it up to a real good running condition.

Ill be home for 30 days from 15Apr to 15May so once the Dworld vacation is over I am building all the shelves and workbenches in my garage, getting the new 60 gallon compressor, media blaster and some other stuff and going to get to work.

Great part about being a contractor is I stay until I want to leave and I think an extra months pay is gonna make this pony a screamer.

Anyone in the Inland Empire (CA). I need to hook up with some Pony guys to find out what shops are good in the area...

I put my list together and I must say... I am an idiot. Looking at 17k roughly to make this 2k car into what I want it to be. Now I just need to get home, drive her on vacation after the basic services are complete and then I will make final decisions on what I want to do exactly.

Anyone else around here got a 91LX build goining on?

17k to make it what you want it to be? What parts are you looking at?

Dang, whole car new was less than that. Not nearly as much fun as this project will make it.

Thanks for the input... obviously other than opinion you have nothing in there to state why? Very helpful in fact.. Oh wait no its not. I love opinions but without any reasoning behind them , all you are doing is wasting server space.

Im all open to suggestions and ideas. This was a worse case scenario of what things would cost if I couldnt source used or something better. I never left LMRs website just for ease of purchase.

Thanks again...
