trimdrip- i know about pulling the cover off and counting gears. on my last mustang i did that and put the wrong 90W back in and it ate the clutches up and dropped the c-clip and when the light turned green at the drag strip i nailed it and the c-clip went through the gears and shucked all the teeth off the ring gear and about half of them off the pinion gear. it did back off the line and we pushed it on the trailer. $1200 later i had an auburn pro series diff and 4.10 gears. i know its geared low cause you have to shift fast and 1st gear is almost pointless.

how does that sound?
I dont know if you have to pull the cover to tell what gears you have. Chock the front tires.....Jack the rear tires off the ground.....Put the car in Neutral..Crawl under mark a spot on your drive shaft & rotate a rear wheel 1 full revolution.... Count the # of times it takes the driveshaft/pinion yoke to rotate 1 full revolution.

You'll end up close to 2 3/4 turns for something like 2.73s....3 full turns for a 3.08....3 1/4 turns for 3.23....3 1/2 turns for 3.55...3 3/4 turns for 3.73 and a little more than 4 turns for 4.10s It's not as exact as counting teeth but it's a quick and dirty way to get you in the ball park. And If I had $400 to spend on a daily driver I'd get some good tires.
