Hello Forum.. Newbee here... great site!

I bought a 1988 LX 5.0 and it is leaking water from the front, driver side, bottom area of engine, above the oil filter area. It is not leaking from the t-stat area or water pump. It leaks only when the engine is running on a cold start up and does not stop.

I bought some Bar's Radiator Gasket leak, drained the radiator, filled with coolant and Bar's Leak. After 10 minutes it stopped leaking in that area. It was leaking up until then and the upper radiator hose was cold. When it stopped leaking, the upper radiator hose was warm. My question is: Was it the Bar's that fixed the leaking or do you think it has a stuck t-stat not allowing the water to return to the radiator and water was being forced out in the area described? There is no smoke out of the tail pipes, no milky oil... my initial fear was a head gasket.. why was it only leaking from that area? Thanks... looking forward to learning alot on this site!

Also looking to get the engine rebuilt in the near future... I live in the Phoenix, AZ. area and would like some reccomendations of reliable, experienced shops. I am not rich, and cost is a factor. The only mods I would like is roller rockers and a Cobra upper and lower intake. Would it be cheaper to have a crate motor put in? Thanks...
