Default Advice!!!!!!! Project for son and dad!!!!

Hello all, new member here. I have a question for you all. I'm currently looking at a 86 hatch roller. I'm thinking about grabbing it for sure but, it needs work .As far as a motor I'm not looking for anything crazy. I may go to a yard and pull a 5.0 from a fox or an explorer and just have a gt40 headed, cammed, and intake set up with full length headers and Flowmasters. My issue is I've never done the whole putting a motor in from scratch thing .I've pulled motors and worked on cars most of my life but I'm worried that if I get all this that I may not get it to run. What do you guys think? The CRA is in decent shape and I'm looking to work on it long term with my son. He's 5 so he's starting to get interested .I'm excited. I'll post pictures. Any feed back or advice is greatly appreciated.

Agreed... motor is gonna be least of your worries.

If you're not familiar with WHAT makes a motor run, it's probably not something you want to undertake yourself.

I mean it's a little rough but, if I got a motor I could get it running. Just needs to be cleaned up. I've just never done it completely by myself .Me and my brother usually tackle big things like this together.

It's a lot rough, brother. It's a good find if they give it to you, or you're buying it south of 5 Benjamin. Otherwise... pass....

Default Advice!!!!!!! Project for son and dad!!!!

Todd0811, if this is going to be a "long term" project, I see no problem with this car. I would suggest building a "sanitary" 331 Stroker, and sticking with carburetion. This is what I did with my 1987 Fox Body with a carbureted, 400 RWHP 331 stroker.

Yes yes definitely long-term. I just want something to enjoy and eventually build a nice car with my son. The family car is a 66 Mustang. But I like Foxbodys to

The the guy wants 1700 for that one. Only problem is it's 4 hours away. So depending on how it looks I'll probably roll up there with a trailer and offer 1200
