Default Transmission?

Hey guys I'm new here lol and have a problem with my 1986 5.0 gt 302 manual trans .So I don't know if I need a new transmission but I will go to put it into gear (EX: at a stop light) and it won't go, like there is no gear there . It doesn't happen everytime but more than a few times if I'm just cruising around town . Please help me !!!

So, you put it in 1st gear, release the clutch and the car doesn't move?

no when I go to shift into 1St it doesn't go into the gear, it will act like it's still in neutral ,like I'm trying to shift into a gear that isn't there ?

What if you try to shift it into some other gear, 2nd, 3rd, etc? What happens then? Difficult to understand your description. Are you saying the shift lever will not MOVE, or that it does move, but the car does not move when you release the clutch pedal? imp

Pull the shift lever assebly off and check to make sure the roll pin is not sheared off. Ive seen them wear out over years of people shifting really hard.

the shift Lever will go into all gears , but every once in a while I will be in N and it can move around a little(like normal when you are in N) but then I go to put it into a gear( I have had it happen to every gear except reverse ) and it will not shift into that gear even with the clutch fully engaged, I have not had a problem with the car moving, when it is in a gear

If you have to replace the transmission, I'd go with a Tremec TKO600.
