Talked to a Ford racing tech today. He said they aware of the shifting problems and that they will have shifter upgrade available soon through FRPP. I hope it is a MGW with the ford racing name. Good for those who want to upgrade but have concerns about warranty issues.

I did take mine into my Ford dealer and they confirmed the 2-3 shift. The tech looked everything over and couldn't find anything wrong. He did remove the skip-shift solinoid, yes removed it. And suprisingly enough, a lot of the low rpm tin/grinding sounds went away and it definatly shifted smoother and quiter. But it didn't fix the 2-3 shift problem. His next step was to replace the shifter, I told him I was getting the MGW shifter and he agreed to put it in and see if it fixes it! He has done one already. If that does not work, he will tear down the transmission. So for now I just have to wait a few weeks for my shifter.

But a note to all those with the skip-shift, unplugging the solinoid is not enough, it must be removed! (worst transmission invention ever!)

I sure hope my shifter was included in that run. Ordered mine about 3 weeks ago. I have not heard a thing. No order confirmation / tracking number or anything. To say the stock shifter sucks is like calling Noah's flood a morning dew. allenmaty is 100% correct on the skip shift solenoid. The worst idea Ford had since the Pinto IMHO.

What did he put in there to plug the hole? A bolt?

I was wondering the same thing, I have not gotten under there to look, besides its very hard to see up at the top of the transmission.

I was looking at a picture of the trans in the service manual and it appears that it would have to be some kind of plate to cover the hole. The solenoid has two bolts that holds it in.

I'm suprised that ford would even make a plate to delete this feature unless maybe that's what they're using on the V6s and 2013 V8s.
Does your invoice list a part number?

I have not got the invoice yet, they are keeping it open until it's all fixed.

Well my MGW shifter is on it's way. Got the tracking info. Someone posted on here that they called and got theirs shipped that day. Kind of raised a flag. Called them and they were processing my order as we spoke on the phone. Santa is coming in the brown truck. You know, the one that dogs hate for some reason known only to them.
