Default Something's wrong with my fuel gauge or the computers lost it....

So my car runs great and I love her but recently, about a month ago she started acted funny. I always fuel with 93 gasoline but recently whenever my fuel level gets to a quarter tank the "miles to empty" gauge will drop from around 110 miles to empty to 0 miles to empty and shortly there after the car will sometimes act like it's going to choke out even when I KNOW there is fuel in the tank. Has anyone experienced this problem or does anyone know what's going on with it? Any and all suggestions would be most helpful as I do all my own work on my car. Thanks in advance.
