yes your sub will fit. One type r is just a little bit smaller then 1 mtx 12" 7500 and i have 2 of those in my trunk. Took some weird angles to get the box in but it fits. As far as an alpine head unit, how much do you want to spend. Alpine is very good, but for the best bang for the buck i'd go with a pioneer premier model. You can get a very good one for about 200 bux.

The sub will fit the main thing is just finding a box that will fit, you can find them on ebay or order them for any audio store, but I know for a fact they will fit, I have 2 Kicker L5's and a 800.2 amp in my trunk so it will definately fit.....

Can it fit? Yes. Will it? Hell I dunno, how bad do you want it in there? I mystify people when they see I have 2-12's in a pre-fab Best Buy box, and a rather large amplifier in my trunk.

To piggyback on what Jimmz said, it all depends on the box. I gave my brother my stang, but when I installed the system, I couldn't fit my 2 rebuilt 10" Power HX2's at first. If you are having trouble, I would say remove the trunk latch and see if that helps. If not, you can try what I did: build the box(es) in the trunk.

Im going to make another custom box to accomodate my 2 12" l5's and both my amps. It will be flush and use up a lot of unused space in my trunk with still having enough trunk space for storage, its summer now so I am going to start it within the next week or two.... but basically it will look like this when Im done... (the first pic is a box that I made for my friends civic a while back).... the second is one that I just found on the internet I am going to make a similar box slightly bigger for my L5's and have the amps in the spare tire well with the plexyglass....

that's a bad *** setup jimmz, i was thinking about doing the same withe the spare tire well till a couple of days before i did the stuff i got a flat, the kept me from doing it, i was going to fit 2 10" that pretty much is normal for my vert trunk, but my gf bought me 2 12" it took me a while to make the box and figure out how to fit the amplifier, but i did it, so answering the quetion if two 12"s fit in a vert i guess you can fit those or bigger on a coupe
