Yes, you can easily just swap out the HU, no problem. What I was saying is don't expect to be able to swap out the DOOR SUBS without a significant mod to the rest of the system like the under-dash amps.

Ive always wondered and this is the perfect thread to ask I guess... Do the Shaker 500 systems have 4 10" subs? (1 in each door and 2 in the back?)

Also I noticed this the other day, has anyone else noticed that its extremely loud in the back seat while playing music? Not sure if the acoustics are just really good back there in the coupe or what. But I was cleaning my back seat and I had the radio on in the car (Ive never sat in any seat except the drivers... thats the way it should be ), and I noticed it seemed alot louder than it did in the front... so I checked to see if I had the rear speakers faded up or anything and nope, sure enough it was dead in the middle.

The shaker 500 should have one 8" sub in each front door, that's it. At least that's it in my vert.

I've noticed more base coming out of the rears than the fronts, odd indeed. How about just removing the fronts including subs, and placing a set of components in that space?

I finally replaced all 4 speakers on my 06 GT (I have the shaker 500) I put in polk audio speakers all around. I also added a sub in the trunk. It sounds a whole lot better, but it's still missing something IMO. I think the speakers in the front need more bass, but since they are only 5X7 2 way speakers, they aren't going to put out that much bass. Any opinions on what I can do? I still have the shaker 500 head unit that everyone loves. Will replacing that make a huge difference in sound? What do you all think? Thanks!
How can you hear the speakers bass in the front if you have a sub? i dunno about you but you are the first person ever that ive heard say that they have a sub in the back and need more bass in the front. What was the purpose of getting a sub if you can hear your front subs still ? Upgrading the headunit will make your entire sound system sound amazing compared to stock. No offense cuz i still have my shaker500(planning 2 put in my 1000watt rms sub in there soon and a new head unit), but ford did not do too good in the audio department w/ this car. The amps keep cutting out when u turn it up just a lil over halfway(the low goes out cuz the amps cant handle anything!). My old POS 92 camry didnt even do that when i had it stock.

It's not the bass in the front. IMO, the system is just missing something. It just sounds ok to me. I like a good sounding system in my car, especially when the windows are down and you can crank that thing up. By replacing the stock speakers, the new ones are extremely clear and much louder and the bass in the trunk sounds good too. But I think it needs something more, that's all. I guess the next step for me is replacing the head unit.

A factory HU can only do so much... You need a real HU and a real amp to clean up the sound. When I upgrade, I'm ripping it all out.

If there is only 2 subs in the front, one in each door, how come there is so much bass when sitting in the back of the car? Are the cars acoustics really that good? I just sat back there last night to see how loud it really got and it is definately not quiet.. I hear what sounds like 2 subs from the rear deck, if there isnt another 8" back there then those are some nice stock speakers back there to produce that much bass. And I dont know how you guys are complaining about this stock system sucking, this is better than the "upgraded" Bose systems Ive heard in alot more expensive cars...

i cant wait to post up my detailed writeup of installing my $6000 stereo for you all! I'll be sure to explain what components are needed and/or desired, what the reasoning for certain techniques or designs is, and all that jazz...from a certified installer.

btw, although ford put subs up front, i am harshly opposed to that mentality. the reason you will not hear all of the sub-bass frequencies is because the subs up front and in back are playing the same note but from different locations, causing cancellation, among other things.

What would be a good set of components for the front? $300 or less.
