Default New head unit... need help

I currently have a 6 CD MACH system and want to get a single deck MP3 player. I took apart everything last night and noticed there was alot of cables coming out of that 6 CD MACH head unit. When I purchase a new unit, what else do I have to get to hook everything up?

Wiring harness and a mounting kit. DONOT cut the plugs off the factory harness.

You will match wires on store bought wiring harness and harness on new radio. Using wiring diagram somtimes you can match colors. Use some crimps or solder it. Don't be cheap and twist it together and use electrical tape.

Yeah I use those male to male straight crimps on everything. do I need a mounting kit even though I have the single radio bezel installed now? Originally it was a 6CD deck but I bought a single deck from a friend.

Well if it fits then you might not need a new mounting kit. As long as the bezel that is in there now will support the weight of the new HU. All of my HU installs in mustangs are in the fox so not sure if your factory HU was attachet to the bezel or some different support behind it. So not sure it will suport it. I would hate to see you have to buy a factory replacement one day.... might be able to check www.crutchfield.com to see if one is needed.
