Absolutely. The hood of the car is actually a "Deflector" that will significantly reduce range when a detector is mounted at the base of the windshield.

EDIT:
Ooops! I didn't realize some idiot was resurrecting 6yr old posts. I thought someone actually needed help. Move along... Nothing to see here...

I put mine on the dash directly in front of me. It hides it from the view from behind, and if I get pulled over, it comes off and is hidden in 3 seconds. You have more chances of getting away with a warning if you don't appear to be a chronic speeder.
Where are you located? Radar detectors are only illegal in VA I believe... I've gotten pulled over a few times here in GA and they don't say anything about it.

i like how yall are worried about gettin caught, i can have a radar detector, laser detector, and laser jammer and it's completely legal no matter what, check your laws because most states have no law, but dont get a radar jammer because those are illegal everywhere

You can always go with the Invisicord

Radar detector Invisicord

If your mirror has these features, chances are the mirror has a wiring harness connected into the back of the mirror housing. My little contraption allows you to quickly connect my power cord right into the harness without any splicing or cutting any wires! You simply push the connectors into the back of the wiring harness to tap in to the proper +12v/ground wires. It is basically a 1 minute install!!!

This is the perfect solution for any Mustang owner. You can easily attach your Escort Radar Detector right next to the rear view mirror, giving it a perfect view of the road and hidden out of sight without power cables dangling everywhere. The Invisicord plugs right into the harness in your rear view mirror. It is very easy to connect and disconnect. Comes with complete installation instructions and your choice of an 8" or 12" Invisicord. Free Shipping on this item.

How do you access the harness in the rear view mirror? Sorry...extreme noob here! Do you have to dismantle anything?
Thanks in advance!
