Default Head unit for 93 mustang..

Hello all..

I just found this forum, so this is my first post..

I've got a 93 mustang LX hatchback, and it's still got the tape player intact. I want to get a CD player head unit, but I honestly don't know a thing about it. Will the CD player fit right in the spot where the tape player is? If anyone has any expirence with this, your help will be much appreciated.

Also, if you have any recommendations for a good head unit, that would be great, too. I just don't know where to start.

Thanks

the deck pulls out by inserting the ford radio removal keys($5 at an autoparts store) and then pulling the radio out. Once it is out you will need to look under the radio to see if you have a factory amplifier. You will need a kit to put the new deck in, it is about as easy as they come.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm pretty sure that the factory amplifier will be there.. I'm 16, and this is my first car.. I bought it on a budget, so there's no upgrades or anything.. Once I get the stock radio out, will the slot be a "standard size" for a new cd player, or will there need to be modifications?

Thanks for your help.

there is a kit you need to get to mount it. You mount the deck to the kit, then the kit to the dash. If there is an amp in there you can bypass it. Follow the wires that plug into it and there will be a 8 pin hrns hidden behind the glove box(just trace the wires). You can verify that this is the hrns you need by plugging the factory radio in and turning it on, and then disconnecting that hrns. If it is correct the radio will stay on but the sound will stop. That is a standard ford radio hrns that you can find at any parts store, use it as it goes straight to the speakers, not to the amp.

On page 2 of my signature it has a pic of the hrns that you are looking for.

Is there any advantage to bypassing the amplifier rather then just plugging it in to the amp?

the ford/jbl amps are poor quality, you get better sound out of the newer deck then you will going through them. Trust me........
