i was considering these components when I do my system, just not sure. I've heard the Kenwoods take more adjustment, but if there set up right they sound good? Is this true? Just found an amazing deal on them, so not sure if they would be worth it.

ok i would like a tad more mid-bass than the Type-Rs currently have...the way i have them set-up they provide a decent kick....but of course i could always have more...but what really turns me off about the Type-Rs is that they are not very balanced and the tweeters are VERY bright as ttocs said...i have messed with all the settings on my HU and just cannot tune them to where they are balanced...my radio doesn't have bass/mid-bass/high settings...it has adjustments for each crossover point and the level of db for each frequency...i admit i am no expert on tuning systems but i have played with it enough to know that there is just no hope for these speakers to please my ears lol...i only planned on using the EQ because i listen to such a variety of music and with the current set-up i am constantly adjusting settings when i switch genres...now i know a "good system" is supposed to sound good on all types of music without too many adjustments...but well we all know i don't really have a "good system"

hiss04...i don't want to have to buy new amps...the XXX requires 2000w RMS...my amp only puts out 1000...which is why i wanted to go with the lower one...either way it is going to be an improvement over my current set-up...lower/deeper bass with less distortion...but then less "noise" overall so it will be more balanced correct?...so which of the brands you suggested have a lot of midbass but then subdued tweeters (should i go with silk domes?) and require 100-150w RMS?

Please, everyone, stop calling a type R loud. Start calling it distorted garbage, not loud.

Hilarious... He didn't say loud though. He said pounds! Like lbs.

These people are really starting to discourage me. Its like every time I think I've got someone a little learned, someone else comes on this site with a woody for type R's.

lol...well it is a little hard to hear about those amazing, but unheard of in the rest of the world outside the underground Car Audio world...there aren't many (if any) car audio competitions in my area and even when looking for equipment i never heard anything bad about the Type-Rs on any site that i looked at (i admit i didn't know about caraudio.com though) until i came on here and they got ripped to shreads...and of course when you first buy something you usually are satisfied with your purchase, and i was...but the more different genres of music i tried, and the more i played with the settings....i have just come away wanting better (much better)...so i understand the mentality of people who don't know about (and never will find out about) all those other not-very-well-known-yet-superior brands out there...it would be nice to have a sticky of a bunch of different systems put together by the A/V experts in this sub-forum...

it would be cool to have a $500 system for SQ and one for SPL...then a $1000...and up...and maybe a few of each showing different brands and where to sample/purchase their products

And I would love to share my time, and hard earned knowledge. As well would all the other car audio nuts, but, it would take a long time to createjust the $500 setup, much less 3-4 of them.

yea that is true...that is why i threw it out there...to show people it is impossible to get a good sounding $500 system unless you can buy the components wholesale and build your own enclosure/wire up the car yourself

I got a great sounding sub setup for less then $300 in my wifes old car. Like hiss, I wouldn't mind lending my experience, but there are still a lot of brands I haven't heard (I have heard most though).

Instead of a faq section nobody will read, if the knowledgeable keep spreading knowledge and their are people that will listen, mission accomplished. There will always be the ignorant, but those that grasp thier lack of understanding have a valuable resource on the forum.

I could setup a couple lists of equipment brands to be considered, but I would rather help design systems on a one by one basis.
