How much power through stock Head Unit?
I have a 02 gt that is a non mach. It has the single cd. changer. I have purchased all new speakers to replace the crappy stock one. Im doing 6.5" component speakers in the back rated for 350w each. Up in th edoors will go 6x8 speakers rate at 250 watts a piece. Will I have enough power for this setup to sound good or will I be needing a new headunit/amp/wiring for it to sound good.
Also does my car have an external amp?
rms for 6x8 is 250 total
rms for 6" components is 175 total

I have no clue. Post your question here. You will probably get better response

im planning on just rewiring everything with some heavy speaker cable and getting an adapter harness to splice everything together while bypassing the amp
Simply put, you will not have enough power to make the components sound good.
Please link both the comp and 6x8's actual info.
DO NOT PUT THE COMPS IN THE BACK, THAT IS A TERRIBLE IDEA!!!!!!! If you need me to explain I will, but I have a descent amount of experience in car audio, and you want your best speakers in the front.
You will need 4 channels worth of line output converters, an amp, and an install kit.
If you provide the actual specs I will recommend you a very nice amp for a good price.

you don't NEED amp but it will sound better with an aftermarket amp, or even with an aftermarket deck with more power. Stock power is prettywell unknown since they inflate those numbers soo much. You might have 10 watts if you are lucky....
Saying you don't need an amp is like taking 4 spark plugs out of a V8 and saying it will run.
If you don't want to buy an amp, just buy a set of coax's and call it a day. Components will produce less sound at low power becuase the crossover draws a considerable amount of power.
