I agree 100%. I have heard a lot of JL equipment. Some is good, some is not, but they are always overpriced.

The shop I used to frequent and where I bought my equipment carried both JL, diamond audio, and eclipse as thier higher end lines. The Diamond hex blew the JL ZX's out of the water and then they connected the diamond M6's to the same signal. Even the middle of the line diamond was a step change better in sound quality then the top of the line JL.

I have seen a few sq competitors using W7's, but still the number of even those is very small in comparison to all the other brands.

what about the Hertz Audio comps?...aren't they the same company as Focal/Audison..but their comps are lower priced than the Focals

i really am thinking about getting those CDTs that are on clearance for $99...how much you guys think i can sell my 6.5" Type R components and 5x7 Coaxs?...i want to get rid of the rear speakers and bridge my amp to send 150x2 to the CDTs...sound good?

what about a good sub to go with then? i want to keep my Alpine amps...75x4 and 1000x1...and i want to go to 1 12" sub instead of 2 10"s....kinda want to try a ported box although i'm more into SQ than SPL...so is it possible to make a ported box sound as good as a sealed with the right tuning?

sorry to hijack the thread...but i kinda have the same questions...and i'm learning more and more about Car Audio

Start your own thread next time. I'll watch for you.

The first thing I would do is ditch the rears and see if you like how much better the front comps sound.

I work at a shop that does JL, does ALOT of JL. From an installer stand point I like their amp stuff as it is easy to tweek and tune, well set up and I have never had one go bad out of the box, and very rarely come back. There are of course other brands out there that sound better but they are but they are about as bullit proof as a 15 yr old black box alpine amp......

My first driver was a 12" W7. It lasted a year(ish), maybe, and the cone ripped. Perfect timing, just missed out on the warranty. i owned two 15" mojo's for a long time, never had one problem with them, and they dominated the w7 line in SPL.
