Ok, so i am about to start installing my sub and amp. I have a loooong power cord and it says that i am to install this big fuse box in line with it i think. am i right? So do i cut the wire and but the fuse box in line? Thanks! (this will probably be the first of a lot of questions!

 

You should have a fuse (usually a single fuse, not a box) within 18 inches of the battery on the wire you're running to your amp. If you have a box with multiple fuses that usually goes in the trunk to fuse the equipment on that end, but you'll still need an under the hood fuse & holder.

ok, so i cut my wire, run it into both ends, and then where do i run the wire through the firewall?

 

I've heard there is a gromet somewhere on the later model cars near the steering column/clutch area. My car is a '91, so I don't know for sure where you should do it on your '03. Just look around for an empty or underfilled gromet and stick the wire through it.

also, where does the ground wire go? That is the 3' long 4 gauge wire right? and the remote wire needs to run where?

 

the ground wire goes to anyplace that is a ground, try to get it to a bolt on the frame. The remote wire you should run with your rca cables up to your head unit. You will hook it up to the amp turn on, or power antena, different radios call it different things.

 

Wrong... You NEVER run power next to signal. Keep the remote and the main power as far from the signal wires as possible until they meet the head unit or amp.

There's only a slight possibility of picking up noise from a small remote wire, but why risk it? I always run power (and remote) down one rocker and signal down the center console.

 

well here is the thing.... i don't need to run a remote wire if my amp has "signal sense" do i? I have a sony xm-d9001gtr, does this have it?

 

Most amps have remote turn on wire that run from the amp to the power turn on wire on the headunit. This should be pretty easy to do because your amp should have a remote turn on connection. You just have to supply the 16 gauge wire to hook it up. The ground wire should be around 4 to 8 gauge for the amp you're using and and connects to someone in the trunk where the amp should be, to the frame or some bolt that's already there. 4 to 8 gauge wire to run the hot wire "power wire" to the battery and a there should be a fuse supplied with the amp to connect 12 to 18 in away from the battery.
