Calling all wiring gurus
Ok, this is my first post on this site.
GREAT SITE!
I have a 99' Ford Mustang V6 3.8L. I have had three CD Players in this vehicle, that all worked fine. While I was in Iowa, I took the CD Player out of my Honda Civic (Which the CD Player worked fine, & still does) and installed it into my Mustang. Now, it seems that the CD Player is hardwired to the battery because CD Player drains the battery and stays on even without the key in the ignition. When I bought the vehicle (from a rinky dink dealership) they cut the inital wiring harness & plug and hardwired the original (aftermarket) cd player that came with the car. So in troubleshooting the problem, I have found the stock plug (from a junkyard) for the radio & re-wired it back to factory defaults and have bought an installation kit for the CD Player(The way its suppose to be done). I am still having the same problem. I do not have a Mach system in the vehicle. It is the stock sound system that came with that years model. I don't know if there is a preamp nor do I have any other ideas on what to do about this problem. Can some one please help? For now I am without tunes because I don't want to drain the battery and yes if I turn off the cd player it still drains the battery. I have left the cd player unplug. Also, previously, before I rewired the original plug back, if i left the cd player unplugged then my windshield wipers did not work. THANKS FORD!
Thanks,
Chris

How do you know it's the stereo draining the battery? You might have a bad cell causing it to go dead. An easy way to tell if anything is a power drain is disconnect the postive batt terminal and then lightly touch it to the positive battery post and look for any sparks. If there is any thing on it will spark. The stereo should have one wire that's constant hot to keep the clock going but that circut draws very little amps and won't drain a good battery for weeks. Have you checked the trunk light to be sure it's going off?

Well if i don't leave the CD Player plugged in, then the battery isn't dead. I thought it was a bad cell in the battery at first and so I bought a brand new battery last week. I even went as far as having the alternator checked. It is fine. So it comes down to the cd player wiring. Everything works, it just won't turn off with the ignition. Also, can anyone tell me if there is a preamp in the car?

No there isn't a preamp if you have a standard system. You have your constant/memory (yellow) andignition/on (red) backwards most likely.

the radio does not shut off with the key? where is your red wire connected? You will need to pull out a voltmeter to diagnose electrical problems, if you can get one out we can probably fix ya up.....
See what voltage you have on the red wire.
