Default Ideas for a system

I was into car audio about 8 years ago when I was in high school but college forced me away from it. I am looking to put a decent system in my 01 GT w/o Mach460 and wanted to get some ideas from people who know what's currently out there. Here is kinda what I'm looking for:

Deck
-iPod interface
-not too busy; simple

Front Speakers
-Decent components for Rock music.

Rear Speakers
-Not sure here. I removed them from my '95 to let the Bass come through.

Subs
-Still need to fit a set of golf clubs back there. I had the 10" MTX Thunderform in my old one. Could use a little more thump, but not much.

Amps
-I had a 4 ch and 2 ch bridged in my '95. Not sure if that is really needed anymore.

Music
-I listen to mostly Rock. Bands include Tool, SOAD, APC, Metallica, 311, Godsmackand so on. I really want a good system that will complement Rock with out too much Thump.

Budget
-I'm not really limited but I would like to not spend it all on sound. I am still trying to make the car faster I would say that I don't want to spend much over $1k...of course less would be better.

Any ideas for me? Anything I'm leaving out?

Thanks in advance.

That is a great starting point for info needed, but what is really your budget. $600 withgood HU is really hard, but for $800 There are a number of great setups we can put together.

he said no more than $1k and he didn't want a HU with all those gimmicks and doo-dads that most of them are coming out with these days. i'd set aside maybe 250-300 for the HU and the rest for the components/sound deadener. it sounds like he could probably make his own box. if he can build his own box, i'm sure he could make one for a 12" that could tuck away just as good if not better than that MTX Thunderform.

Thanks for all the information. It's nice to get all that upfront.

You'll have a nice rounded system for rock, with a small amount of bass, just for fill. Under a $1000, no problem. Preal knows alot of packages and im sure right now as im typing this he is coming up with something for you. Im hoping he selects an Eclipse deck for you, strait up performance, simple to use, none cluttered face plates, iPod ready, not to mention the cheapest iPod interfaces on the market. Nice little 12" in the far back of your trunk. Some CDT's... I wish I had more money for a system for my Stang!

Thanks! I can spend $1k but I definitely won't complain about being under that I will definitely do the work. I think I can build a box but I've never done it before. I would give it a try though. Any templates out there for fitting a 12" and having it somewhat tucked out of the way. I think I would install the amp(s) on the back of the seats as I did with the '95.

Again, I am really wanting good sound quality without sacrificing the limited room that these cars provide. I've thought about a rear seat delete but I use the backseat every so often and don't think I want to pitch it just yet. I will make do with the system now and if I delete the rear seats, I will move things around then...but I still don't want a huge box taking up all the room and I'm not really into anything flashy or showroom-esque...I don't want to take away from the actual car itself of course

I will take a look at the Eclipse decks. Any particular one recommended?

Thanks again!

The CD3000 is an excellent choice, they have the new CD3100 on the same site, for $20 more, the look is much more appealing in my opinion, the remote is included, detachable face plate. Choice is yours though, just an fyi. Definatly worth the $20 though, the remote alone is $30 if you buy it separate.

Also if you want you iPod you'll need to buy this too.

So add $48 to your total.

Wow. That should keep me busy. I guess I've been out of the loop for too long. I don't think Eclipse, Hifonics and CDT were around when I used to toy around with this stuff. It was all Alpine, Kicker, Infinity, MTX, Polk, etc. I definitely like the cd3100 look better. Anyone have any of this installed with pics?

What would be a good size box for the sub? Ported or sealed? I assume sealed will take up the least amount of space. What would be the best way to wire the Sub voice coils with that amp? Sorry for the questions but some of this is starting to come back to me after checking out the suggested components.
