Subwoofers and convertables
Hey guys,
New here--wondering if you can help.My gf has a 2001 convertable and she keeps blowing subwoofers. I know with a convertable there is not much air in there especially when the top is down for breathing room. All she is running is a single 12" sub in a audiobahn bass tube powered by a power acoustik amp rated at 620 watts max. This is the second sub that has taken a dump, and I am wondering if it is because of the heat?? The subs that were installed are the correct ohms, wattage etc.. for the amp so its not like we are blowing them due to too much wattage. Any thoughts or experiances with this?? Thanks!

It sounds like you haven't set your amp up correctly. How high are your gain and bass boost cranked up?Ifthat bass tube is ported, make sure you have as much clearence behindthe port asthe diameter of the port.
Is the sub a dvc? Did you measure the resistance with an ohm-meter when you were done?
Usually you blow a speaker from underpowering it, not overpowering it.

My last sub blew in my Vert. I couldn't hear it over the wind noise on a LONG ride home and eventually i had ti too loud and the it looked like the bottom piece of the cone separated from the top part and cracked the dead center of it. Like P said, I probably didn't have the amp set correctly. Do you have any pics of the setup? I'll post some of mine if i get a chance today or tomorrow.
