Default Suggestions for upgrades on S197

Hey all. I am looking to upgrade the speakers in my 06 GT and was hoping to get some good suggestions. With the stock Shaker 500 HU Iam currently running4 pioneer 4 way 6x8's along withpioneer slim 8" subs in the doors. The front speakers and subs are powered by an MTX 500 watt 4 wayamp. In the trunk I have 2 MTX 10"s, powered by an MTX mono 600 watt amp.

I want to get the best sound possible without breaking the bank. I know I need to upgrade the HU and am torn between the Pioneer AVIC Z2 and the D3.

For the speakers I want to change out the front door 6x8's first and am looking to spend about $200.00 or less.

I listen to about a 50/50 mix of rock and rap.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I would get rid of the 6x8's and go with a solid component set like the CDT ef61FG's or Morel Tempo 6's. The Morel's are a little more expensive but dynamite for sound quality.

+1 a good set of components would be nice. You would not need a set of speakers for the rear because everything up front will set accordingly.
I have an 06 stang to. I am running an Eclispe deck, Memphis Belle, Image Dynamics ID MAx 12, Memphis 8's, and AudioControl Eqs. Only thing I need is to get Image Dynamics Component set for doors. Either deck from Pioneer will be great Z1 or D3.

All of the suggestions offered here are just fine.

If you want to take a shot at a $10 set of speakers that will destroy those Pioneer 6x8's, try these:

Awesome 5 1/4" plate components.. :>

IMO, get a pair of those and pocket the other money to put toward a new headunit.

I don't know about destroy....... If I were to buy them I would expect $10 performance and not be disappointed.

It makes no difference to me. Go buy a set of Alpine Type-X (SPX-177R) components if you want something more expensive and not a whole lot nicer. I loved those components, but apparently I just like cheap garbage.

If you want to try out the $10 components, cool. If not, cool. It really makes no difference to me.

Good luck.

How much trouble is a stereo shop going to give me to try to mount 6.5"s in a 6x8 hole? I brought that up when I first changed out the speakers but the shop pi**ed and moaned that it would be hard to do (cutting andfabbing and such)and wanted to charge a bunch more to do it, which is why I got the 6x8's in the first place.

Thanks. As far as the Z2 vs. D3 goes, is there any reason that one substantially beats the other?

Making the 6x8 adapter plate to fit the 6.5's should be no problem. You can buy premade adapters or make your own out of MDF.

Personally, I'll be making my next set out of lexan because I've had a few sets that were made out of MDF fall apart (they were too thin).

Nice looking components...
