How do you??? UPDATE SEE LAST POST
damn, I had a reply I was happy with and the forum lost it........
well you mentioned post counts earlier as though they mattered and if you will notice mine, and look over my history you will indeed see that this is my, and a couple of others turf. That is why I welcomed you earlier, and have asked you to explain your pro experience as we have alot of newbs come in fresh from reading their crutchfield and think they know everything. I love it when somebody else can help someone on here before I can, but it annoys the **** out of me when they give bad advise that we have to then correct. If you have something good to throw in the pot then by all means throw it in and we will be happy to let it simmer as long as it helps.
I am not going to crap on this post anymore because I think we(everyone included) aswered his questions before you turned this into an insult and pissing match and started saying peoples opinions were "worthless" and cursin and screemin. We have not raised our voices nor called you any names so who is acting childish so please settle down and maybe just tell us a little about yourself? I would rather have you as a friend then an enimy but if you are going to continue with posts like this I will continue to **** all over them while making my usual rounds in "my turf".

jthorn,
Polk momo's are ok comps, but are not even in the same ballpark as the other brands mentioned. If you are lowering your budget I understand, but before you get the momo's check out some CDT comps at woofersetc. They will grossly outperform the momo's in every way.

there are a number of componant speakers that offer the ability to be mounted coaxially through some good engineering. They come with the instructions, it is normally just a hollow bolt that goes through the back of the magnet that attaches to the tweeter mount. The wire goes through the bolt to the x-over so that the speaker still gets the advantage of the signal being seperarated at the x-over while still using the advantage you get from a coax speaker where all the sound comes from one location.
You will probably be looking at a 6.5" speaker so you will need to make or buy a 5 x 7 to 6.5 baffle. I show how I mounted mine in my mustang page, I showed how to make them on my trucks site(with an enclosure to help the mid bass). If you don't have a jigg saw or router I would be happy to copy mine for a fair price.

It should also be rather easy to fit both the tweeter and woofer from a 6.5" comp set on a single 5x7/6x8 adapter baffle.
CDT's aren't the only brand I'd look into. It all depends on what you want to spend. Those DLS comps are also great along with many other brands.

OK, I understand how to make the components work now, not hard at all, now here's my next question, sounds basic but it's a good one.
What exactly are components?
What are the advantages of components over coaxal?
I already have tweeters and I noticed most components come with tweeter so WTF???

ah, I see now.
You have two basic types of speakers in car audio, coax and componant.
Coax speakers are normally just a speaker that has a woofer and a tweeter(some times more)mounted at the same point. A traditional coax will have one input that both the tweeter and the woofer will play from. There will often be a high pass cross over to take the bass out of the tweeter but for the most part both speakers play the same signal, while again being mounted at the same point.
A traditional componant speaker will have a woofer, and a tweeter, and a cross over that will seperate the signal so that each speaker can play the portion of the signal that it is best at. The cross over will will seperate the signal and send just bass to the woofer, and just the high range to the tweeter. By taking out the portion of the signal that the seperate speaker is not good at playing will allow it to sound better playing the frequencies that the speaker is designed to. traditional componants also offered more seperation because you can mount the tweeter away from the woofer but that is generally not recommended.
This is where the non-traditional componants are great because they have the signal seperated by the cross over but also are able to be mounted as a coax speaker.

OK I understand that now, but what about the separate tweeters I have now, with components would they still serve their purpose, or would the tweeters that come with the components cancel out the need for free standing tweeters?
I am not sure what kind of tweeters you have or how they hook up to your source. You do not want to just hook them up to the tweeter output on the cross-over that is going to the componant tweeter because the difference will cause the x-over point to change.
If you go with something like CDT I would just leave your tweeters out.

Well since my dad hooked them up I have no idea how he done it, he's an electronic techinician and did tons of stereo hook ups in his day (although that's by no means his specialty, he's much more involved than that), so I'm sure he hooked it up properly.
