Default Just want something simple...

Im not really into getting the loudest/baddest sound system. Actually my super stock- NON mach audio system in my 00gt is ALMOST enough for me... (hehe). I just want a little more thump than the stock, not looking into getting subs and boxes/ amps/ wire kits/ new battery or all that jazz.

What are some good replacement speakers for the stock size holes? (i know the back are 6 1/2'', what about the front size?) Sticky says brand is up to whatever SOUNDS best to you.

Also, do i HAVE to get a new headunit? Rather keep the stock one and keep cost down.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I am fairly sure your car has 5 x 7s all around it.

If you want to replace speakers unfortunatly you really need to start by replacing the deck. The stock speakers are a strange 8 ohm impedence that the factory amps play fine on but will not work will aftermarket 4 ohm speakers. By replacing the deck you can bypass the amps.

What are you wanting out of the system? What is it lacking now? $?

If it is a convertible then the rear speakers are 5 1/4 and fronts are 5x7(6x8), coupe it is 5x7s all the way around. You can put 6 1/2s in with just alittle speaker mount you will have to make.

Do you have the double din factory radio or the radio/cass. and the cd player down below.

If you have the double din factory radio then there is no factory amp at all.

But if to have the split dash radio, then to bypass the non-mach factory amp is very easly in the car. When you pull the radio out you will have to look behind the dash to the right side and see a black and a gray harness(rectanglar looking) just unplug those harnesses and buy the metra harness 70-5605. This will bypass that factory amp. Factory amp on the non-mach is under the radio, in front of the shifter, behind the dash.

Ok i guess i have 5x7s all around (its a coupe)

Yes, pre-01 mustangs have the double-din radio set up (cassett on top, CD below).

Money...hmm no more than $150? Just looking for the Singers voices to be louder/crispier and there to be a little more bass.

you can switch to a double din opening and get a double din deck by going to a bone yard and getting the double din dash. It is a bolt in swap.

I am looking for the same thing. I went by a place called installations unlimited in my town. I believe they told me they could possibly fit 6x9s in the holes, but would have to make mounts for them. Don't quote me on the size. They may have said the 6 1/2s. Basically the way to get more thump is bigger speakers. I don't care if everyone hears it I just want some kick without having to have big speakers. I believe you would need an aftermarket amp, and I thought they said there is an adapter they can install so you can keep your factory head unit.

Yeah you just have to put a line out converter(LOC) in there to keep the fatory deck.

Has be to 6 1/2s not 6x9 unless there goin to do some cutting.
