Default Stereo Noise!!

So my girlfriends 2003 V6 fury is starting to make noise through the stereo.

I know it is probably a ground cause that is what causes these noises in most cars but this is an orignal stock stereo. It is a Mach system the lower of the 2 styles.

The noise is not constant though it only happens now and then. It stops once you are driving freeway speeds. SO it is mainly in stop and go or slower speeds.

I was wondering if it could be a AMP ground, I say this because once you turn off the stereo while it is happening the music is off and a couple seconds later the whining sound stops.

I hope that I was through enough on the description let me know what you think!

Well in that year non-mach system the headunit powers the 4 5x7s, there is no amp besides the one built into the headunit....

Does it do it on all sources?(cd and radio)

First thing pull it out make sure the harness is plug in all the way and not loose.

could be a bunch of stuff. We would need a list of what is in the car before we could even hope to guess correctly.....

Thor any tips on pulling it out?

The car is bone stock!! Just changed the plugs and wires but that did not help!

^Pulling the stock HU unit out:

Pop off the trim around the shifter, unplug the cig lighter.

Then pop the trim around the radio out and disconnect the 3 harness below(trac, fog lights, rear defrost).

Use a 9/32(7mm) remove the 2 bolts(holding the radio in) and the radio will pull right out.

Its that easy.

if everything in the stereo is stock it will be difficult to diagnose. It could be a bad connection or a bad piece of equipment. I think I would start by checking the factory noise condenser, not sure where it is on that year however.

I was told that I did not have one. After searching the web I found a post about disconnecting the Altenator.

Noise went anyway. Is it bad or what?? Still charges the battery!€\

disconnecting the alternator? Never heard of that fix. It is the source of the noise, unfortunatly it is also the source of the power..........
