I was told that one needs to use a relay to take advantage of the auto dimming feature, but it was never important enough for me to consider connecting. It has something to do with that wire going through the CAN-Bus and also having a dimming feature on it for the factory HU.

Hey Phanatic, did you need to get anything more than just the JVC KW-XR610 head unit to get it installed? I read your post and like the unit, so I'm considering getting the same thing. I'm not really experienced with this, but from reading around on the internet some units need a PAC C2R-FRD1 wiring harness (I think that term is right?), and possibly a voltage regulator - did you need these two things?

The PAC guy would have to chime in if I am wrong, but I think the PAC C2R-FRD1 negates the requirement to use a voltage regulator to eliminate the turn-on pop with the factory subwoofers.

I vote with going aftermarket.

I had the non-shaker head unit and really wanted a iPod hookup. Decided that for the price of buying & installing an adapter, might as well replace the head unit. I replaced mine with a Pioneer head unit. Not sure of the number off hand but it uses a USB cord to hook the iPod up. $240 installed. Very happy so far, but the speakers really should be replaced also since I feel that Pioneer really gets more out of the stereo than the stock did

Sorry I dont get on much durring the day with our Phoenix Gold forum launch.
We have the voltage regulator built in to the module, so a external is not needed

I just put in a kenwood kiv-bt900 headunit im my 07 gt. I love the new headunit. It called a digital media reciever, so no cd player built in. but it has Zune and Ipod control. bluetooth built in. aux input. mic in. hd radio and satilite ready. Since I got it hooked up The stocks subs dont seem to work. I put the pac harness in wich had two wires that run to the headunit for the subs. Not a big deal, I will get all new speakers and an new amp anyway, down the line. I too want to upgrade the rest of my system. but im thinking about the shelby kicker system.

Sonic Electronix includes this Scosche FDK11 with orders for a new 06 Mustang GT head unit. Would this one also negate the need for a voltage regulator, just like the PAC C2R-FRD1 would?

No, that does not have the regulator, nor does it give all the options like VSS,reverse wire, parking break wire etc. that the PAC does.Im not pushing PAC becasue i dont make a dime from it, I do tech and r&d.

Something wasnt connected either the amp turn on or the sub output.

No worries, I am more concerned about getting the facts than anything else! Thanks for letting me know. I did get the PAC today as well, regardless, and it sounds like it was the right choice.
