JL Stealth box in a s197?
you could try to get the amp tucked under the passenger seat. There is a member on here (forget his name) but he did a whole writeup on an install he did in his 03/03 Cobra.
I know it's a diff car, but similar with what the OP wants. When the seat is back you cant see the amp, and as long as you hide the wires you should be good. I have my interior BA's amped and a 10" sub in my 04 GT with the amps mounted to the back of my rear seat. No good places to "hide" 2 amps in small cars...I still retained 90% of my trunk and still have my spare tire. I could have put the amps in the spare tire well, but wanted to keep everything stock and if I want take it all out and never even know it was there.
IMO to see amps is not a bad thing. As long as it is a clean install I think it can add to the visual eye candy of the car.
Not compeletly done yet but:

You can put the amps where ever you like. No need for a write up to do it.. If you want it under the seat just pull out the seat and mount it. I'm not a fan of under seat amps myself...Too much dirt/moisture.
I'm not referancing a writeup on HOW to mount an amp... I'm saying that because there are pics of the install and what the OP might like to do.
Found it:

As far as dirt/moisture is concerned being under the seat, I would suspect the same amount of moisture even if you mount it in the trunk....but prob more dirt under the seat since your feet etc are within a foot of the amp.

how big is the rear deck in the trunk, is it possible to mount it in the center of the rear deck, upside down in the trunk (the amp) -- the 900/5 is certainly a smallll amp theres a good chance it'll fit there..
I have read you won't want to mount an amp upside down. The way most of them are designed for disipating heat mounted facing up. Flip it upside down and...heat rises...so it may heat up quicker which leads to pushing it into protection mode and potential damage. You prob could make some sort of rack that mounts to the rear upper deck. I don't know how the newer stangs are designed in terms of the rear deck, but in the new edge's there are speakers on either side with room in the middle (no mach system) But if you have a Mach 460 there is a whole plastic body that is mounted under there. The Mach 1000 has the 4 amps and 2 subs.
wouldnt the amp have heat issues if you put it under the seat? Not much airflow there. I'g liek to have it mounted behind the box like the shaker 1000 setup, but that probably wont work here.
Shouldn't be a heat issue, especially if you got the a/c on in the summer. Under your seat would be the coolest place in the car. I'd be more concerned with the dirt/dust/moisture. But it has and can be done. If you decide to mount under the seat I'd mount it on some wood or plastic bars so it's not actually right on top of the carpet.

^^ I agree with Mook, The RF amp I have mounted on my back seat is mounted on two 1/2" MDF wood "bars" painted black so there is air under and above the amp.
You could mount the amp behind the box if the amp you plan to get is small enough. You have to research the parts you want (amp, sub etc) AND design your setup at the same time. You may have one design, but then get an amp/sub and have no room. Pay attention to the amp's overall footprint and the sub's mounting depth and required internal volume then mock up a setup and figure out what you like best.
Most 10" subs made in a sealed box are around .75 ft^3 from what I have read and done. My box pictured is right around .75 ft^3 (manf. recommended).
