Smile 1986 mustang vert. rear speaker question

hey there so i am totally new with speakers and what not, i have a quick question so i was lookin to up grade my speakers and my plan was to start with my rear ones first, so if i find some that are the right size can i just hook them right up or would i need diffrent wiring?
Everything is stock right now with the tape player and what not and i wanted to keep it that way for now but just wanted better sound by upgrading the rear and later on the dash speakers.Any advice would be great thanks for ur time!

oh crap.... A fully stock 86 mustang? An installers worst nightmare. I did one, and then priced the rest of them I ever quoted with a high enough price to justify the work needed to be done, but that is mainly dealing with the deck... Most people would not do the install after getting the quote as it was not cheap as it was not easy.

The deck is a common ground system normall which means if you want to replace the deck with any normal floating ground radio(which they all are now) you will need to run new speaker wire to each speaker. That is really not the bad part though, the bad part is getting the deck out. back in the da when the cars were fresh/new we could remove the ac ducting in the back, have one installer pry upwards on the dash while the other wiggled it out on the back. Verts are great for this as the installer flexing the dash can stand up with the top down, but I would never do that again today since we know that plastic isn't going to flex anymore... So if you wondered why the stock radio has remained in there, now ya know.

Swapping out the speakers is really the only thing in the install that is easy. Just a standard 4 ohm driver will work as long as its the same size.

Thanks bro, and wow that's insane! U kno alot! My right dash borrd speak is dead and don't plan on fixing it Any time soon I'm was thinking of changing the rear ones like I said would I need new wiring and what not or can I just pull the old ones out in the rear and put new ones that fit? I was also thinking of later on runing a deck maybe in the back seat or some were else but in the main deck for safety reasons.

as for speakers you are ok to just swap them out. If you ever get teh deck replaced get ready for high quotes or a crying installer...

run new wires to each speaker, then pull off the enitire dash and replace the deck. Go ahead and do the heater coil while you are back there and it shouldn't be too bad.
