Shaker 500 issue - Constantly Grinding (disc?)
My Shaker 500 unit has been doing some funky stuff since I left my car outside in the cold all winter.
At first, it seemed as-if it was cycling through all of the CD slots, then would stop and say CD ERROR
Now it is obnoxiously grinding while it cycles.
This happens whenever anything is done to the car while it is off: locking / unlocking doors, clicking the trunk release button on remote, etc.
It also does this again (after stopping) about 15 minutes after the car is turned off...
Anyone know what might be causing this?
Also, my car is off of warranty, should I take it into a car stereo shop instead of ford?

Short answer? It's dead Jim.
Since it's out of warranty, just replace it. If you have no satillite radio, or Nav (the fancy stuff), then it's yank it apart time, get your cd's, and trash it for a decent after-market.
I would just do it yourself. Plenty of walk-thru's here, youtube vids, etc on how to put in a new after-market radio in a 05-09. Unless you're completely electronically handicapped, it is far more likely you will do this better than your local audio shop will as you actually give a damn about your car.
Crutchfield.com would be my personal recommendation if you want this as seamless as can be expected.

the indash changers, or cd players from ford in general have always had a crappy transport mechanism that always give out. Get your disks out of it and find an aftermarket unit that will fill you needs and probably sound better too.
