Hmmmm...I lived there last summer and loved it. Never had any experience with the last few posts. It's definitely a weird place (weird might be an understatement), and I was always biased against it as a kid, but living there changed my mind.

You have to embrace the fact that it is weird, but the food is awesome and the craft beer scene might be even better.

It's definitely a love/hate kind of place though, so I guess it's going to bring out strong opinions no matter what.

 

I was born and raised in Asheville.. it is a great place; as long as you don't go to Downtown. Crime is high, but not as high as most of the people around there. ha...

Even then though...I worked downtown on Battery Park Ave next to the Grove Arcade so I was there every day and I had no problems. I guess everyone has different experiences.
