Default Fuel leaking back into tank?

Hello all! We have a 1965 Mustang with a 289 and a 2 barrel rebuild stock carb. It is hard starting when we go to start it after it sits for a week, but once it's going, it is fine. Also, when we go to leave a car show, it starts fine. So, we were wondering if it would be possible for a stock fuel pump to leak fuel back into the gas tank over that week? We were asking around today, and got mixed answers. What do you guys think?

Do you pump the pedal a few times before starting it when its sat for a while? When you start it up when leaving the car show there is fuel still in the bowls. When its sat for a while that has evaporated.

I have this issue with mine when it sits on a slight hill with the nose facing up. Never did before though. Although I do have a different style tank and what not but the issue is still there.

My Grandfather pumps it (he drives the car, since it is technically his car), but it still takes a few tries. We are going to let it sit for a week, then before we take it out, we are going to see if it is shooting gas into the carb when he pushes the gas.

when you leave it for a week you might just remove the aircleaner before you do anything. agitate the throttle and see if there's petrol shooting out the nozzles at the top of the carb. if it is, good and it will start straight away. if it isn't check how much fuel you have in the bowls. the carburetor might be empty/dry. if that's the case it will take a while because the pump will have to fill the carb first when you're starting

I have a clear filter on the line and after it sits for more than a few days the fuel is gone. Too much to evaporate, so it must slowly retreat into the tank. A few pumps can get it back, but I just shoot a little fluid in the carb to make it start right up.

Well, my Grandfather checked it Friday (5 days after last use), and it squirted gas, so next he is going to change the fuel filter and try pumping the gas a few times before he tries to start it. (he has been pushing once, cranking, push, crank, push, crank, etc. until it started). Thanks for everyone's help. I will keep you posted.
