I've got a 71 convertible
351C 2V
3 speed (by the way, anyone want to buy a 3 speed trans?)

The car is pretty much one giant rust bucket, with a few patches of body filler to make things interesting. Does anyone know where I can get a straight body for a 71-73 convertible or fastback? I want to compare the price of that to the price/time involved with getting a welder and learning how to weld.

Saiuto I will have a rust free 71 fastback in another month or two... I need a bigger bottle for my welder. Check this threads pics if you think yours is bad.. lol. https://mustangforums.com/m_1033065/...tm.htm#1035075

Just got the aircompressor wired up today, broke it in and now I have more than enough air to run the sand blaster, impact, and die grinder all at once!

I like the big ones, they are still somewhat cheap and have big engines. They arent near as big as some other cars and its nice being unique. I dont know, I might end up keeping it.

More pics and info coming soon! Its finally warmin up here...

your 65....
Length 181.6 in | 4612.7 mm.
Width 68.2 in | 1732.3 mm.
Height 55.0 in | 1397 mm.
Wheelbase 108.0 in | 2743.2 mm.
Front Track 57.0 in | 1447.8 mm.
Rear Track 57.0 in | 1447.8 mm.

now, a 71 Fastback...
Length 189.5 in | 4813.3 mm.
Width 74.1 in | 1882.2 mm.
Height 50.1 in | 1272.6 mm.
Wheelbase 109.0 in | 2768.6 mm.
Front Track 61.5 in | 1562.1 mm.
Rear Track 61.0 in | 1549.4 mm.

hmmm...the wheel base for a 71 is an inch longer, it is 8 inches longer in total length, 6 inches wider, 4 of which is track, yet a 71 is 5 inches shorter!

Hey Soaring, just giving you crap, as for boats, I own one, a 1957 Fairlane 500, the wheel base is 118 inches!

you my friend are wrong.....the real mustangs were made from 1967-1970 and then production was stoped until 1999......i have a 71 coupe sitting in my dad's barn that the former owners left there 9 years ago. I think i might sell it to a buddy of mine. I would restore it myself but i have a 69 R code 428CJ Mach (a real mustang) that i need to work on

Wow, that's a hell of a compressor! Well, assuming it's in your home it is.

Where did you get your sheetmetal from? How much time have you spent cutting and welding? If you were interested in selling that body, how much do you think you would let it go for?

71 Mach 1, 351C 2V Ram Air, C6, 3.70:1 Trac Loc 9", Roller setup.
69 Mach 1, 351W 4V, 4 Speed Top Loader, 4.11:1 Detroit 9", Roller setup, Paxton

I love 64 to 73 and 79 to present! But it is a wonder that the FAT car (71-73) was the fastest production Mustang of old (71 Boss 351)

Well right now its just like it is in the pics. Havent started welding yet, got my sheetmetal from Mustangs unlimted and the Paddock. It was easier to find stuff for it on those websites, so I got it from them. So far I have about $7k into it including the engine and transmission. Rebuilding the trans next week, might assemble the engine next week too. When its done I will have around $15k into it, so I might break even if I do sell it.

The air compressor is in the shop, I live in the middle of nowhere and have 10 acres to play with. I couldnt have one big enough while in the USAF cuz I moved way too much and usually lived in apartments. So when I got out and moved for what I hope is the last time, I got the one I have needed for years.

If yours is rustier than mine, I feel for you. I took two months off working on it while it was below freezing here, cant get my fingers to work in that much cold and the woodstove just dont heat good enough for that temp.
