67 cowl repair
Slick, this is true I have seen it done this way if you make the cuts right, there is actuually quite a-bit of room for access. If you go this route after cleaning and removing as much rust as possible you will want to cover the inside with some stuff called Schutz Body(I think thats the name) it comes in like quarts and you have to buy a special gun that fits the bottle it is basically an undercoating sealer heard it works well never used it.
thanks, here is the stuff http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/e...er/output_html

I don't mean to sound negative, but unless you cut out the rust that is in the cowl and replace it with new metal, you are just crapping in the wind if you cover it up with anything which includes undercoating. Now, after you get in there and see that only the seams around the hat are leaking, and the rest of the cowl is virtually rust free, then maybe you will get by for a couple of years with a plastic hat replacement type deal. Bottom line.....there is only one way to do it right.
Yeah, I know, this is the cheap way out, but at least it's a decent temporary fix - and it doesn't look too bad either. I recently ordered one:

the plastic hats don't do much at all. if anything i think the glue worstens the situation by giving water a place to get held up. here is what my lower cowl looked like when i pulled it apart. to fix this im media blasting the whole thing and getting rid of the heater holes all together. its mainly a drag car so the heating system isnt worth the weight or cost to get it working again.

When I get the area accessible and take out any rusted out areas (which does not seem to be any at all from what I can see from under the dash), I plan on using POR15 over the entire surface which stops rust in its tracks and it does work. I was a mechanical engineer and I have used stuff like this in the past. It bonds with the metal surface and changes the molecular structure of the metal.

Yup, thats why I have a MIG welder too...

Yes it does, but it won't repair any damage that has already been done.
