67 cowl repair
As with a lot of early mustangs, I have one side leaking badly. three types of repairs are suggested by parts houses. I don't want to do the replacement route, due to the expense. Has anyone tried fiberglass repair? Is there an somewhat easy way to remove the heater? I'm an old man and it's tough getting onder the dash. This a driver, much modified, so I don't need to remain original. Thanks guys, Vanceboro
i dont know about the fiberglass way. i bought my 65 and i checked under the dash to see a bunch of black stuff. it was fiberglass and i dont know how long its been there but there is a tiny leak in it. i too dont know what else to do, patch it from underneath or just do the whole project
I have a leak in that area too, were can I get these "plastic hats" ??

it depends on the rust damage, have you tried the plastic "hats" yet?As for the heater, the non AC one is easy to get out

Just as has been discussed a lot on here. 1. get it repaired the right way by replacing the entire cowl, 2. Use a cowl vent cover to keep the water out of the cowl, which will also keep any air out of the cowl, causing you to not have vent or heater air, or.....3. Only drive the car in fair weather.
I have never heard anyone state that the plastic hats cured the problem. Maybe one of you guys will be the first.

I am replairing my cowl vents with the patch pannels from N.P.D. The bad thing is that all these peices I have bought so far seem to be for a 65-66 and you can make them work on a 67-68. I can weld pretty good and I do "fair" at body work, but this is a lot of work. I don't know what a body shop would charge other than I am sure it's a lot.
If you elect to fix it yourself just form the new parts to lay in after you remove the old pannels and then sit them on the original cowl panel to mark your cuts. Cut a little wide because you can trim more off easier than you can put it back. Mine are ready for welding now. I have some pictures I'll post later.
I was a mechanic for years so engine and transmissions are no problem. Body man I am not. I tell you, if you aren't more skilled than I you had better be wealthy to put on of these beast drug out from under the pines back together. Maybe someone should have hit me with a 2x4. I'd be over it by now. I have accepted the fact that I can't do these repairs as well as many others. When I am done it might not be show quality, but I will have done it all myself.

Well, I purchased the plasitc hat because I'm not going to rip my car apart for a small water leak. The hats are just leaking, they don't need replacment. I ordered this kit and I'll et you guys know how I make out, with PICS... Plastic Hat repair
They say I need to take the fender splash shields out for installation, that does not sound too bad. Just got to pull the front wheels off then go from there.
