http://www.stangerssite.com/adjustment.html Here is a bunch of good info on adjusting your steering box.
This guy also does rebuilds, resonably priced, and the difference is amazing.

RE: Tighten up steering?
Well, I went and did some minor adjustments to get some of the play out. I just adjusted the screw in after loosing up the lock nut and it took about 50% of the play out. Its the screw and lock nut that's on top of the gear box.

Yup, seem too. I can't adjust it anymore than it is. I did not force it but, there did not seem to be any more adjustment left. If it last me a year or two, I'm happy with that. My slush money is all gone anyway..

Yep...worked, didn't it?

That would be great.. I just got a set of new rear spring I'm going to be installing.. They will raise the rear 1 1/2 inches over stock then I can take off them POS air shocks. I have a new set of KYB's to install too..

It'll last you for many years as long as you don't drive it for 50K miles a year. Those old boxes are tougher than nails.

Did you do this adjustment? It states to take the pitman arm off. I'm not sure it that's needed or not but, from the adjustment steps pic I posted it appears that the shaft that the pitman arm mounts too is the shaft that gets turned in order to tighten up the slop? Is that correct?

The right way to do it, is to turn your steering wheel to the left as much as it will go, then loosen the nut on the steering box, and use a screw driver to tighten it until it rubs, then back off a tad, then tighten down the nut. If you tighten it with the wheel straight, you will get it rubbing too much and will cause undue premature wear.

yeah, on the steering box, there is a nut, loosen it, and then tighten the little screw.
