First off, I will not put GM parts on my Mustang. Secondly, the single bowl MC for a disk up front car has the same problems as does a single bowl MC for a drum/drum car. It a line breaks, you are out of brakes, either up front or on back. And, the PV is necessary to keep the rear brakes from locking up from too much pressure. It cannot be left off if you want a safe car. So, obviouly, I will not buy a Scarebird kit for my car.

1. We have looked hard for a suitable Ford caliper that will mount without a cast spindle such as Degin's. There isn't one. Our last hope is the Probe 89-97 unit. Granted, it is a Mazda piece- but can be ordered from your Ford dealer.

We have found that our new setup with the Celebrity caliper will not clear the skinny 1967 14 x 5 styled steel wheel.

2. Single masters have there risks; i have had several cars and trucks with them and not had issues. This is not saying something bad cannot happen. I have had duals go out, and they do not leave much to use.

3. Brake bias is set by the ratio of slave piston areas front/rear. The PV acts as a simple restrictor. If this was not true, single master drum cars would be spinning out all the time- they don't. The PV was meant as a fine adjustment- nothing more.

Degins- how did you solve the master cylinder hardline mismatch issue?

Ok, so there are many opinions. If the whole world were like me, it would really be boring place

...But as long as it's not a concours car, it seems to me that the most important reason for disc brakes is the safety vs. cost. If I can save money on the disc setup, maybe I can afford a power booster.

Do you have a good booster you recommend with the Scarebird setup?

Thanks

Geoff, I would try to stay stock with the booster, unless you are running a really radical cam- then I would stick with a manual setup.

I do not understand the hangup about using non Ford parts. Would this keep anyone from using a Wilwood or Baer brake system? What about Edelbrock, Holley, Demon, etc. carbs. What about AFR, Roush, Edelbrock heads. Any one have a problem using Keith Black pistons? Tremec transmissions are not build by Ford and the same basic transmission was used by GM. The Mustang steering box is a Saginaw unit with the same basic design widely used by GM. Is upgrading to an aftermarket rack and pinion acceptible to the Ford purists?

To me restomoding is about getting parts to do a specific job (and in an economical manner). If that means using ford rotors, GM calipers and a Geo master cylinder, so be it.
