Default Removing Master Cylinder

Im in the process of changing the MC on my 68. I am putting one out of the granda for the disc swap and was under the impression that the rod stayed on the car and was used with the granada. It isn't coming out though. Is it suppoes to?

IIRC you remove the rod from the pedal, remove brake lines and unbolt. Remove mc and rod as a unit. Put the rod in a vise and tug out the rod - it will not be easy.

This is from the MustangSteve site for the disc swap

(He recommends a 74 Maveric mc. I believe the reason is the brake lines are on the driver's side, same as original mc. Are the lines on the Granada mc on the other side?
