turn signal problems
i have a 289 66 mustang coupe and i was experiencing problems with my brake lights and turn signals. so i replaced sockets, turn signal switch and stop lamp switch. now my brake lights work good but my turn signals rarely work. every now and then theyll work. could it be a grounding issue? any help would be greatly appreciated.
The metal prongs (looks kind of like a thick silver wire) on the back of the cam are the important part, carefully bend them down where they will be sure to touch the brass prongs in the column(there should only be two on the column, be sure not to go too far), and make sure the cam is properly locked down. This was the cause of my problem.
the 2 wires are making good contact with the brass buttons. i drove it around the block and out of 4 or 5 turns it works once or twice. i dont know if somethings shorting out. i might have to break down and take it to somebody that knows more than i do.
Your idea is better...get someone that knows what is going on, I got lucky and found my problem but not everyone has the problem I had. I have the Scott Drake sequential tail-lights and cooked my new flasher relay when I sodered the cam wires. Strangely enough, the surge also fried my brake light switch...after replacing the two switches everything worked fine.
