Ever melt jumper cables?

RE: Ever melt jumper cables?
yeah, those pics are BAD![:@] good to hear you aren't too messed up. you def have a short or something and with what you did to the cables you could have fried the batt, alt/gen and/or volt reg (if you have an external one. i believe you should if this is on the truck).
replace the batt 1st and go from there. GL!

RE: Ever melt jumper cables?
I ended up leaving the cables on there longer before turning it on and it started up. I let it idle for 5-7 minutes then drove it around the block a few times then pulled back into the driveway and turned it off. waited 1 minute and started it up again. I waited about 2 minutes then turned it off.
I went inside to wash up and do some other things for about 10 minutes then went back out and it cranked just a little but wouldn't start. I'm going to have to jump it again...
Sounds like the battery could be damaged but not completely toasted yet. Alternator is also good since it didn't die on me during that little bit of driving OR I might just have to make sure the truck is running for a while between startups and leave it running for a long time to fully charge the battery.

i'd start it and leave it running in the driveway for a while, if you do it at night turn the lights on (it works better this way) and watch for them to dim out. turning on the lights puts a little more load on the alt and if it's bad it'll drain it. but all in all, i suggest removing the battery and alt and taking them to a shop and have them test them for you. if they are both good (and you have an external V reg) replace the v reg and def chech for a short or frayed wire or a bad ground somewhere, just to save you trouble in the future. hell, it could have just been a fluke and ya just need a charge. You have a fried battery. Not only do you need to take that battery in to have it checked, you need to have the alternator checked. If the alternator is fried, you also need to replace the voltage regulator.
