timing chain cover question
hi guys im going to put on my timing chain cover tomorrow, but was wondering what kind of gasket maker to use...i already baught the timing chain cover gasket kit, but dont know which gasket maker to use or procedures to follow? i have the blue gasket maker, super blue gasket maker, and gasket sealer. I think im good to go...any suggestion on installing my timing chain cover?
with a gasket you shouldnt have to use sealer on all of it. The edges where it meets the oil pan and around the water outlets are the only places I put it. I prefer Ultra Black, use it sparingly, not a huge glop of it. Whatever squishes out does so on both sides. A quick way to spin a bearing is to have some get into the pan then go through the oil system.
Orange works okay too, so does blue. Black seems to hold the longest and clean up easiest. All you need is a thin layer of it spread around the cover then the gasket applied over it. I dont reccomend putting it on the block, its easier to clean the cover then the block with the engine in the car.
