Default Grant Steering Wheel installation tips

G'day all,
I have just finished installing a Grant Classic Nostalgia steering wheel to my 66 coupe.
Thought I might post a tip that may save time for others. There is a spring for use under the horn button that needs to be discarded and 3 foam adhesive pads are to be stuck over the 3 rivets on the contact plate.
Also the fibre contact plate in my installation kit was TOO BIG for the horn button to locate on to.I had to rework the round fibre contact plate with emery paper until it was an interference fit.Now it fits on.
I wouldn't recommend these wheels.I think the quality is so so.I guess the old saying "you gets what you pays for" holds firm.
I'll run with this wheel until I can get my deluxe wheel repaired. It has the typical splits in the plastic.I read there is a guy in Pennsylvania that restores them for around $400 US but I'll try and find some one in Australia or have a go at it myself.

I got that steering wheel for my 67 and had the same issues! The center cap fell off quite a few times before I *twisted* the cap to stay on the fiberboard. I eventually became too lazy to disconnect the battery everytime I reinstalled it. Neighbors must have thought I was crazy honking so much.

Now if I could just figure out how to get the 1/4" gap from behind the wheel to the column...

Same here. My button keeps falling off. It must have ground off the fiberboard. Im getting ready to glue it. but my horn works fine. I kept the spring and everything.Oh, the foam pieces dont go on the rivets.... The rivets are what contact to make the horn work.

Ron...same thing here. Installed the Grant with similar mods you mentioned. My copper horn contacts on the signal assembly were worn so far down that the Grant contact plate was making contact with the emergency flasher and turn signal contacts causing a short. Ended up placing the metal caps from glass fuses over the contacts (perfect fit) and all was well (see pic below). My son really likes the feel and size of the 15" Grant wood wheel...guess it'll do for now...

Hey Cogtx, What is that lever sticking out of the right side of the column? Is that a column shift car?

WHere was this information a few months ago when I replaced my turnsignal wiring harness for the second time because my horn contacts had worn down to nothing?
