i bumped my timing in my 91 5.0 ho vert im gonna go higher i get about 28 mpg now i cant run reg anymore gotta have at least 89 otherwise it pings im gonna go higher in search of even better gas mileage, increased power, smoother running car and reduced engine temps!
My motor recieves the same benefits as what you described... except I don't get 28 MPG... but I do get more than I do with 87. More explosive fuel in combination with my airflow gives me the ability to further lean it, obviously. too much octane can deteriorate poorer quality seals, overwhelm the air ratio, etc... the Focus book warns me to use only 87. If you haven't, I suggest trying lead (substitute)... I use CD2's substitute. I often use twice the regular dose, the bottle refers to it as a dosage for engines straining a heavier load.
well Glen, The 289 2v engines have 9.3:1 compression not 9.1....... not much of a difference, but just wanted everyone to know.
Yeah, I must have had the 10:1 ratio in mind that my Mach has. I HAVE to use at least 91 octane in that monster. But, my 289 2V certainly does not need high octane gas. She runs just fine with 87. And yes, if you don't need high octane gas, then buying it IS a waste of money, and can lead to carbon build up in your engine. Like we discussed before, it takes a lot more fire to heat up the high octane gas, and if your compression ratio is not high enough to detonate all of it, you are not burning it all.
My 2v burned alive within the first week I recieved the car. It hosted a couple of badass bonfires. I still have it, and all my original parts though... unless someone around here has been throwing things out. Hmmmmm...
